On August 3, 2021, the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) issued a new order temporarily halting evictions until October 3, 2021 in certain counties with high and substantial community transmission levels of SARS-CoV-2 [COVID] as defined by the CDC.
The new order allows for the covered counties to change. High and substantial counties may be identified by the CDC COVID Data Tracker. The CDC COVID Data Tracker is an integrated, county view of levels of community transmission for monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
The definitions of ‘covered person’ and ‘eviction’ remain the same as the previous CDC eviction moratorium in place from September 4, 2020 through July 31, 2021. Tenants that have signed a Declaration Form are not required to sign a new form and new declarations must be accepted in covered areas.
At press release, President Biden said that approximately 90% of renters would be covered under the new CDC eviction moratorium.
